White and Kraft Frame with Red, White, and Blue

A bright heart print in a white and kraft frame.  The diagonal layout adds to the cheerful effect.

I started with just the white frame, then noticed a kraft frame (from the same die set) in my scraps, left over from another project.  It added the perfect extra touch of kraft color and an interesting curved shape to go with my sentiment font.  Always fun when that happens!

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) blueberry sky (blue), classic kraft, and stamper's select white.
  • Patterned paper is from PTI classic kraft pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired) and Doodlebug patriotic picnic 6x6" paper pad.
  • Dies are from PTI fabulous frames.
  • The sentiment "thanks" is from PTI enclosed: apple, stamped with PTI classic kraft ink cube.

  • Patterned paper is from PTI pure poppy (red) pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired).

Brown with Teal and Green on Green Polka Dots

A cheerful mix with some stamping, some patterned paper, and some Copic coloring.  A playful, retro kind of vibe.  The brown and rustic red colors work to ground the bright teal and green.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) Americana (rustic red) and stamper's select white.
  • Patterned paper is the large dot print from PTI green parakeet bitty big pattern pack.
  • The brown and rustic red stamping is from PTI splits: just a note, stamped with Memento rich cocoa (brown) dye ink for the images and PTI Americana ink cube for the sentiment "just a note."
  • I added the teal and green coloring with Copic markers BG57 and YG03.

Cardinal with Green Rays

It was fun creating my winter scene for today's card.  I used three sets of corner sun rays, with two of them stamped in green to make foliage.  I like the color contrast of the bright yellow and red with the dark blue and greens.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) bright buttercup (yellow) and stamper's select white.
  • Patterned paper is from PTI enchanted evening (dark blue) pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
  • Die is from PTI winter woods.
  • The sentiment "sending you sunshine" is from PTI corner adorner: February, the bird is from winter woods, the yellow and green rays are from corner adorner: November, and the red berries are from tinsel & tags sprigs (retired).  They are stamped with PTI enchanted evening, pure poppy (red), true black, bright buttercup, new leaf (green), and pinefeather (dark green) ink cubes.

Yellow Bird and Sun on Lavender

A little scene with a bird perched on a white banner.  Though the sky is a wintry lavender, there's some aqua blue where the sun is shining.  That's my story, anyway  ;-)  and I do like the colors together.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Neenah solar white and Papertrey Ink (PTI) winter wisteria (lavender) and summer sunrise (yellow-orange).
  • Patterned paper is from PTI aqua mist pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
  • Dies are PTI heart-2-heart #9 (bird) and the large flower center from simple sunflower
  • The banner is cut with Silhouette Cameo.  I edged the bottom with Copic marker Y19.
  • The sentiment "just a note" is from PTI keep it simple: just a note, and the bird's eye is the smallest circle from confetti toss, stamped with PTI ocean tides (muted teal) ink cube.

Gold on Gold - Anniversary Card

It's difficult for me to capture shiny surfaces in my card images, but the lower right of this picture comes close.  The card, for a 50th wedding anniversary, is shiny gold foil over a sparkly gold background, with a shimmery white sentiment banner.  Really beautiful in real life, and I know the recipients will enjoy it.

Christmas Card 2018

This year, our Christmas card has a simple manger scene with the Holy Family and an angel.  The card has a wide white border and is computer-printed on Neenah card stock.

Since 2010, we've used one of my annual Nativity drawings on our cards.  This one comes from my 2017 Advent calendar.  If you'd like to see past years' Christmas cards that I've drawn, click here, then scroll down.

Wreath with Purple Bow on Woodgrain

Our church is decorated with evergreens and purple trimmings for the Advent season - purple is a traditional color for Advent, and we'll change the trimmings to white for Christmas.  It always looks beautiful against the wood and stone walls.  And it was my inspiration for today's card with a dark green wreath, purple bow and stars, and a touch of tan wood grain texture.  I'll write notes inside these to send to our parish shut-ins.

Note: the gray border is background, not part of the card.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Essentials by Ellen tan woodgrain and Papertrey Ink (PTI) pinefeather (dark green), amethyst allure (purple), and stamper's select white.
  • Dies are from My Favorite Things winter wreath (wreath and bow - retired).  Stars are punched with Fiskars mini star.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) scarlet jewel (burgundy) and stamper's select white.
  • Patterned papers are from PTI scarlet jewel pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired) and stormy sea (gray) "+ white basics" patterned paper (retired).

Red, White, and Blue with Kraft Polka Dots

Some leftover pieces of white and dark blue just happened to layer together, and then, of course, I had to design a card to use them.  Very simple and bold.  The grid pattern makes a perfect background for the large scale sentiment, and the large polka dot print and the 3-strand twine wrap add some energy.

Lavender Branch on Gray

Texture and pattern add interest to my softly monochromatic card, posted for this week's Papertrey Ink (PTI) Make It Monday challenge to "create along with us."

I was inspired by the colors and layout of this card by Dawn McVey.  Thank you, PTI and Dawn, for all the beautiful card samples and ideas you've shared!

Card details:
  • Card stock is PTI soft stone (light gray) and lilac grace.
  • Patterned paper is from PTI winter wisteria (muted lavender) pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
  • Embossing folder is The Paper Studio script (retired).
  • Dies are PTI branching out and noted: simply stitched vertical A2.

Green and Brown Stripes on Cream

The bold stripes made me think of a window valence, so I took that forward with a scalloped border and a strand of cream and gold twine.  The sentiment fonts echo the striped pattern with both curves and straight lines.

I first tried a dark brown border and a green sentiment, but it looked off-balance.  After switching the colors, this version works much better!

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) ripe avocado (green) and rustic cream.
  • Patterned paper is from PTI turning a new leaf 8 x 8" pad (retired).  I edged the top and sides with Copic marker YG95 for more definition against the cream background.
  • Twine is gold shimmer stripe from The Twinery.
  • Die is My Favorite Things scallop ribbon border (retired).
  • The sentiment "with gratitude" is from PTI spring woods, stamped with PTI cocoa bean ink cube.

Tropical Leaf Print on Dark Green

My typical design would reverse the dark and light green colors, but I tried it this way first,  and I really like the lighter green glowing against the dark green card base.  The tropical leaf print works nicely with the rough twine and sentiment font.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) green parakeet (lighter green) and an unknown leather-textured dark green - a few sheets given to me by a cardmaking friend.  Patterned paper is Craft Smith jungalow - a gift from another cardmaking friend.  (Thank you, Judy and Vicki!)

Blue and Gold Stars with Kraft, White, and Brown

My card is based on this week's fall to layout #95 on the Palmtrees and Pogosticks blog.  I turned the sketch sideways to fit my large star better.  The mix of dark and light values follows the sketch, and I included a patterned star "ribbon" element, a large layered embellishment, and a scallop-y border piece.  It was good fun on a rainy day!  Thank you, Natasha, for sharing your weekly layouts to inspire me!

Gray Pattern Frame with Lime Green and Turquoise

Dark gray patterns with bright lime green and turquoise - almost a theater marquee effect.  I like it a lot!  I made this for last week's Papertrey Ink (PTI) "make it Monday" challenge to use patterned frames ... and then was too slow to enter it.  But I'm still thankful to PTI and Heather for inspiring me to try the idea!

    Green Branches with Dark Blue

For this week's challenge (fall to layout #92) on the Palmtrees and Pogosticks blog, I didn't need a square card, so I adjusted the layout to work with A2 dimensions for my simple design.

I like the glowing green colors, anchored by the dark blue, as well as the mix of curves, dots, and straight lines.  And what I call "medallion band"  - a sentiment shape on a horizontal or vertical strip of ribbon or card stock - is one of my favorite classic layouts to use.  So, thank you to Natasha for inspiring my card!

Wreath on Plaid - Dark Green and White with Muted Teal

A simple two-layered wreath on plaid.  I like the monochromatic colors.  The sentiment and banner curves echo the wreath, for a nice contrast with the squares of the plaid.

    Card details:
    • Card stock is Neenah solar white and an unknown leather-textured dark green - a few sheets given to me by a cardmaking friend.
    • Patterned paper is from PTI ocean tides (muted teal) bitty big pattern pack.  To my eye, it's somewhat greener than the ocean tides card stock and perfect layered with a dark green.
    • Dies are PTI rustic wreath and bountiful banners.  To weave my white wreath in with the green, I snipped it at the lower right.
    • The sentiment "thinking of you" is from PTI keep it simple: thinking of you, slightly curved on the MISTI lid and stamped with PTI pinefeather (dark green) ink cube.

    Card details:
    • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) pure poppy (red), ripe avocado (green), and stamper's select white.
