Aqua Gingham with Red and Teal

Monochromatic aqua and teal with bright red accents.  I like the mix of pattern and texture, swirls and straight lines.  In real life, the solid and gingham aqua colors are a good match.

Birds on Trees - Three Versions

(A)

Three versions of the same birds on trees, with different details and color schemes.  Card A is a bright and cheerful note card.  I adapted it with seasonal colors for two family anniversaries - autumn (B) and winter (C).  I like them all, but card B might be my favorite.

  • Patterned papers are a polka dot print from PTI spring rain (light blue - A) pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired) and bitty dot prints from PTI aqua mist (B) and soft stone (light gray - C) bitty big pattern pack.

Dotted Navy Stars with Tan

I was planning to include this tan as one of my card stock colors for Wednesday's card, but changed my mind after cutting it.  I like it much better here, with a bright red word and a crisp dotted navy background.  The diagonal word placement adds some energy to the formal design.

Multi Stars with Brown

For this card, I cut the cover plate from six colors of card stock, mixed up my star cutouts, and inlaid a multicolored pattern to make six different cards, each with the same sentiment in brown.  The bold font and border are strong enough to stand out from the busy star background.  I enjoyed choosing the color combinations, and I like all the results.

 Card details:

  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) spring moss (light green), simply chartreuse (medium green), ocean tides (muted teal), Americana (rustic red), melon berry (light orange - less pink than it looks on screen), honey nut (golden brown - stars), cocoa bean (brown - sentiment layer and ink), and rustic cream.
  • Die is PTI cover plate: stars.
  • The sentiment "thank you" is from Stampabilities card phrases, stamped with PTI cocoa bean ink.

Leaves on Trellis - Purple and Green

To make several of yesterday's card design, I needed a batch of green and purple curved shapes to inlay.  So I cut a section of the cover plate die in each color, leaving me with two leftover trellis shapes, and it felt like a good challenge for me to create something with them.  Today's cards are the result.  I used the same elements and card stock colors for both, but with different ink and thread colors.  Graceful and elegant.

Card details:

  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) lilac grace (light purple), amethyst allure (medium purple), mint julep (light green), and new leaf (medium green).
  • Embroidery floss is DMC 702 (green) and Anchor 872 (purple).
  • Dies are from PTI turning a new leaf and cover plate: twist.
  • The sentiment "with sympathy" is from PTI communique sentiments (retired), stamped with PTI amethyst allure and new leaf inks.

Black on Light Gray with Multicolor Inlay

The same cover plate die as yesterday's card, but a very different color theme.  The bright colors, inlaid in black, look like a decorative stained glass window panel.  I also tried using a white card base, but this light gray made my colors stand out more.

 Card details:

  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) soft stone (light gray), new leaf (green), amethyst allure (purple), bright buttercup (yellow), Hawaiian shores (turquoise), pure poppy (red), and true black.
  • Die is PTI cover plate: twist.
  • The sentiment "thank you" is from PTI think big favorites #18 (retiring), stamped with Versafine onyx black pigment ink.

Dull Greens with Orangey Brown

This card has a bit of art deco style.  Orangey brown details add a warm glow to its dull greens.

  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) prairie grass (medium green), olive twist (dark green), and canyon clay (orangey brown).
  • The medium green card stock is embossed with the Dreamweaver faux cross-stitch stencil screen, as explained in this post.  I used the back side of the embossed card stock.
  • Dies are PTI cover plate: twist and Altenew bold greetings.

Diagonals - Dark Gray or Red

(A)

This design started with the diagonal stripe frame in dark gray on a dotted yellow background.  I used the same die to cut a piece of dotted red and inlaid a few strips, then added a layered circle for my sentiment.  With all of the dotted red strips, I was able to make two of card A (above) and one of card B (below).

Then I wanted to use my leftover diagonal stripe frame in the dotted red.  So I placed it on a dotted blue background for card C (below), inlaid a few white pieces, and added the same sentiment circle with different colors.  I like all three cards, but "A" (above) is my favorite.

Card details:

  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) smokey shadow (dark gray), pure poppy (red), enchanted evening (dark blue), and stamper's select white.
  • Patterned papers are from PTI harvest gold (yellow), pure poppy, and blueberry sky (medium blue) pattern packs (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
  • Dies are from PTI cover plate: stripes diagonal, notched flowers (outer circle), and hello sunshine (inner circle).
  • The sentiment "thank you" is from Fiskars so much thanks (retired), stamped with PTI smokey shadow or pure poppy ink.

Navy and Gold with Aqua Stripes

I started with the layered gold and navy border squares, then set a red strip behind it for some vivid contrast.  After trying several colors and patterns, I chose aqua stripes to brighten the effect.  The script font of the layered "thanks" loosens my tight layout, and a few small stars add some rhythm to the row of squares.

Card details:

  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) pure poppy (red), dark indigo (dark navy), and luxe gold.
  • Patterned paper is from PTI aqua mist pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
  • Dies are from PTI star gazer, PTI huge thanks, and My Favorite Things retro squares border (retired).

Purple with Teal - Leaves and Flowers

Celebrating a friend's accomplishment.  I stamped the leaf and flower outlines in dark purple, with the sentiment and dots in teal and turquoise.  The leaves are colored with purple and turquoise colored pencils, with some light purple shading at the flower bases.  For this special occasion, I even added some glitter!  I'm happy with the finished card, and my friend liked it, too.

 Card details:

  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) tropical teal and stamper's select white.
  • Patterned paper is from PTI plum pudding (medium purple) pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
  • The images (including the dots) are from PTI splits: thank you (retiring), and the sentiment "congratulations" is from Stampabilities everyday expressions, stamped with PTI royal velvet (dark purple), tropical teal, and Hawaiian shores (turquoise) inks
  • Colored pencils are Venus Spectracolor 1431 violet and 1444 lavender and Eagle Prismacolor 920 light green (actually a turquoise color).
  • Glitter (on the flowers) is Ranger diamond stickles.

Teal and Yellow - Stencil Dots

One layer plus a die cut word.  The card's energy comes from the diagonal word and the stenciled variation of color and texture.

Note: the gray border is background, not part of the card.
