Brown and Orange Triangles on Kraft

It's nearly monochromatic with brown, orange, and yellow, but still a lively card with printed and die cut triangle shapes.

Dotted Triangle Banners on Gray

I wanted to try a never-used dotted triangle die, so I cut a few dotted and matching solid shapes from bright card stock colors.  Then wrestled with how to use them.  The eyelet lace die gave me the idea to place them as banners.  I'm happy with the end result, with some neutral grays to show off the layered triangles.

Multi Colored Triangles on Black and White

Bright multicolored triangles on crisp black and white.  It's a very simple and effective design.

Triangle Print with Banner

Clean and crisp with navy, green, and white.  The curved font of the word die works beautifully with the lines and angles of the banner, triangle print, and card layout.

Bright Triangles on Gray with Green Gingham

A cheerful theme with bright triangles, gingham, and a scripty "thanks" die cut.  My card was inspired by the first one posted here on Keeway Tsao's blog. 

Before I thought about my card design, I cut the triangles into a light gray scrap, just to try it with some Copic colors.  And I liked the result so much that I made it into a card.  Love how that can happen when we play around with paper, colors, and shapes.  Thank you, Keeway, for your inspiration!

• Patterned paper is the gingham print from PTI new leaf (green) pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired).

Triangles in Teal, Orange and Purple

Trying out a new stamp set with teal, orange, and purple triangles on a folded white card.  Orange and purple lines drawn above and below the sentiment help to set it off.

I like the energy of the colors and the diagonal layout.  In real life, the orange stamping is lighter, and it plays well with the teal and purple.

Brown with Tan Stamped Panel

I enjoyed stamping a multicolor design on my tan panel.  It makes a handsome card with the crisp white banner.

• Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) cocoa bean (brown), terra cotta tile (rusty red), fine linen (tan), and stamper's select white.
• Die is from PTI sketched shapes.  I shortened the banner by about 1/2 inch.
• The sentiment "thank you" is from PTI keep it simple: thank you, stamped with PTI cocoa bean ink cube.  The triangles, chevrons, dots, and zigzag are from PTI textile impressions, stamped with PTI cocoa bean, terra cotta tile, blueberry sky (medium blue), and enchanted evening (dark blue) ink cubes.

Sun Rays on Aqua with Muted Teal

For today's challenge on Nichole Heady's blog Capture the Moment, we were asked to use one of the featured PTI stamp sets from 2012, or to draw inspiration from any of the projects she highlighted.  I don't have those sets, but I do have the "hello sunshine" dies, perfect for the inspiration I chose.  It's this card by Maile Belles, the 6th "hello sunshine" card shown in Nichole's post today. 

I copied Maile's sun panel, except that my sun circle and patterned triangles are die cut instead of stamped.  I turned my panel upside down and used deeper colors for my background.  The large die cut word completes the sunshine theme.  Thank you, Maile and Nichole, for inspiring me to make this!

Card details:

• Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) aqua mist, summer sunrise (yellow-orange), and several prints (leaf, polka dot, and bitty dot) from PTI summer sunrise, harvest gold (yellow), orange zest, and ocean tides (muted teal) pattern packs.
• Dies are PTI sunshine (word) and hello sunshine.  
• For the sun's center, I used an EK Success 1" circle punch.

Gray with Rusty Orange - Stars and Triangles

Using a leftover starry strip from yesterday's card, I added a block of triangle pattern, along with gray and rusty orange card stock, for a more industrial, graphic style.  It's fun to try different looks with a common element.  I like the rusty orange strip that separates the two patterns, and the dotted triangle that points to the sentiment.

• Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) stormy sea (bluish gray), canyon clay (rusty orange / orangey brown), vintage cream, and two prints from Simple Stories so rad 6x6" paper pad.

Sunburst Layout - Prints and Swirls

Bright prints, embossed swirls, strong shapes, elegant script, dark brown on cream - all in a sunburst layout.   Lots of "try this, try that," and I like the end result.

• Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) Hawaiian shores (turquoise card base), vintage cream, dearest Jane patterned paper (book print), and pattern packs in melon berry (light orange polka dots) and limeade ice (light green gingham).   
• Dies are PTI hello sunshine and photo finish strips.

• Sentiment "Hello" is computer-printed in brown ink with Edwardian Script ITC font (expanded spacing, "H" in larger font size).

Triangles in Orange and Brown

 

My card today is for the August "masculine card" challenge sponsored by Our Daily Bread Designs (thank you, ODBD!) to benefit Operation Write Home.  The triangles in autumn colors make a strong, simple effect. 

Card details:

•  Card stock is Papertrey Ink classic kraft, orange zest (orange), terra cotta tile (deep rusty orange, not so red in real life), dark chocolate (brown), and rustic cream.
• The triangles are cut with Papertrey Ink heart-2-heart #5 die.  This die cuts four triangles at once, and they are beautifully aligned, so it's easy to use the negative cut as a frame.  (For this card, I cut with the die twice to make eight triangles.)
• My sentiment "Thinking of you" is computer-printed in orange ink with brown outline, using Papyrus font (small caps).  The double triangle shapes above and below the sentiment are also computer-printed in Webdings font, typing "8 7" on the keyboard.

Triangles and Leaves in Green, Turquoise, and Navy

New dies to play with - triangles and leaves.  I love the calm and serene look of this card.

Card details:

• Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) enchanted evening (navy blue) and Hawaiian shores (turquoise) and Paper Source jadeite (green - discontinued color).  
• The triangle die is the larger triangle from PTI Two Triangles.  The star is cut from the PTI Super Star borders die.  The leaves are cut with Meadow Leaf from Poppystamps dies.    
• The sentiment "Thinking of you" is computer-printed with navy ink in Herculanum font (bold).

Aqua with Black and White Pennants

The story of this card: I had a black triangle scrap from another project. I cut two more black-and-white patterned triangles. I put them together and drew some dashed lines with black and white pens.

It needed something vertical. I added a contrasting ribbon with black-and-white baker's twine to echo the patterned paper. Then I thought about a sentiment. A small tag was my first idea, but the scale just wasn't right. So I layered an aqua circle onto black and printed the sentiment with a strong black stencil font.

It ended up as an interesting card. Bold and simple, but nice details to look at. The black triangle was a good way to begin it.

Card details:

• Card stock is Papertrey Ink aqua mist and true black. The patterned paper is one of my PowerPoint designs (click here for more info), computer-printed on Neenah solar white.
• The deep turquoise twill is Papertrey Ink Hawaiian shores. The baker's twine is The Twinery charcoal.
• Circles are EK Success punches, 1-1/2 and 1-3/4". The holes for the twine are 1/8" .
• Sentiment "Thanks" is computer-printed with Stencil Std font in black ink.

Stitched Card with Multicolor Pennants

Pennants and sentiment in seven colors, stitched with black thread on kraft.

To make the pennants, I folded white cardstock, then cut triangles (with the fold at the top) approximately 1/2" wide and a bit less than 1" long. I colored them with Copic markers and stitched with black thread and a white bobbin. Normally I would use a matching bobbin, but I like the effect on this card with the specks of white visible.

The sentiment "Celebrate!" is computer-printed on Neenah solar white card stock with Stencil font (black outline only), expanded spacing. I colored the letters with the same Copic colors as the pennants: R29, BG05, YR09, B24, V04, G17, and Y19. My card stock is PaperTrey Ink kraft (card base) and pure poppy (red sentiment layer).

Six Triangle Cards - Blue and Yellow

For this set of cards, I started by making three pieces of homemade patterned paper and cutting them into triangles. I challenged myself to use the triangles for six different cards with just a few "extras." The card above includes all three of my patterned papers. See bottom of this post for the other five cards.

The paper is made by applying Copic ink (Various Ink refills) to white paper with a Ranger Ink felt applicator (Adirondack alcohol ink applicator tool). The speckled paper is G14, B24, and Y15 Copic ink on Neenah white card stock. The light-colored marbled paper is G12, B32, and Y13 on glossy white card stock, and the darker-colored marbled paper is G14, B24, and Y15 on glossy card stock. On the glossy surface, the ink flows just a bit before it dries, creating the marbled effect, while on the matte Neenah surface, it dries immediately for a crisper look. Triangle details: I made 3 different A2 sized papers (as described above). I cut the corners off each A2 sheet, giving me 4 triangles and a large diamond, which I cut in half (the long way) to make 2 large triangles. (Total of 12 small and 6 large triangles.) With a 1 3/4" circle punch, I cut a few circles and semicircles from the large triangles.

The solid-colored card stock is Hero Arts azure (deep blue card bases), Papertrey Ink lemon tart (yellow card bases and circle), and Papertrey Ink spring rain (pale blue circles). For the sentiments and lines, I used green Gelly Roll pen, white Uni-ball gel pen, turquoise and sky blue Copic multiliners, and BG32 Copic marker.

The paper flowers are Hero Arts, colored with B21, B32, G12, and Y13 Copic markers; the small gems in the flower centers are tinted with G28 Copic marker. The ribbon behind the flowers is paper ribbon from Paper Source, colored with G14 Copic marker. (015)
