Pinwheels on Aqua and Light Blue

A pinwheel design with a shiny star circle for the center, in two bright summery color combinations. 

Card details:

• Card stock is Neenah solar white and Papertrey Ink (PTI) aqua mist and spring rain (light blue).
• Patterned papers are from PTI berry sorbet (pink), pure poppy (red), and summer sunrise (yellow-orange) pattern packs (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
  
• The 8-pointed pinwheel base is cut with a Silhouette Cameo.
• The 1-1/4" squares are cut with a paper trimmer.
• Circle punch is McGill 9/16".  
• The shiny center is from a very old pack of EK Success Sticko brand clear epoxy dome stickers. 
  
• The sentiment "sending smiles" is from Hero Arts sending smiles and the center star is from PTI stars & stripes, stamped with PTI tropical teal and blueberry skies (medium blue) ink.

Pinwheel - Orange and Turquoise on Yellow

It's been a long time since my last pinwheel cards, and I enjoyed making some again.  I like the bright pinwheel squares on a white base.

In real life, my sentiment is orange, like the pinwheel paper, not red.

Card details:

• Card stock is Neenah solar white and Papertrey Ink (PTI) bright buttercup (bright yellow) and lemon tart (light yellow).
• Patterned papers are Hawaiian shores (turquoise) and orange zest from PTI 2009 bitty dot basics 8 x 8" pad (retired).
• The 8-pointed pinwheel base is cut with a Silhouette Cameo.
• The 1-1/4" squares are cut with a paper trimmer.
• The star is an inner shape from My Favorite Things western star border duo (retired).
• The sentiment "sending a smile across the miles" is from PTI everyday button bits (retired), stamped with PTI orange zest ink.

Birthday Wishes Drawing on Dotted Turquoise

A festive "birthday wishes" card for a special birthday celebration.  Cake, party hat, pinwheel, and balloons, all sketchily drawn (by me) and colored with Copic markers.  I also added some highlights with white gel pen.  The black mat and dotted turquoise card base set it off nicely.  And the recipient loved it, so I'm happy, too!

• Card stock is Neenah solar white and Papertrey Ink (PTI) true black.
• Patterned paper the bitty dot print from PTI Hawaiian shores (turquoise) bitty big pattern pack.
• The "birthday wishes" sentiment is handwritten with Copic 0.1 black multiliner.

Brown and Cream Pinwheel with Stars

 

Playing with some new patterned paper.  Usually I think of pinwheels with bright, contrasting colors, but I like the subtle effect on this card.  And the star in the center adds some drama! 

Pinwheels are easy to do with this April 2011 Pinwheel II tutorial on Operation Write Home's Stars and Stamps blog.  (note: I prefer a wider border, so my background squares are 2-3/4" instead of the tutorial's 2-5/8")

Card details:

• Card stock is Papertrey Ink rustic cream (speckled card base), vintage cream (star and sentiment), dark chocolate (brown), and Dearest Jane patterned paper (book prints).
• Dies are Papertrey Ink medium star from seeing stars (brown star) and My Favorite Things Die-namics stacking stars (cream star). 
• I edged the pinwheel squares with E53 Copic marker.
• The sentiment "Thinking of you" is computer-printed in brown ink with Bookman Old Style font (outline, no fill).   The stars with the sentiment are Monotype Sorts font (bold), capital letter O.

Red, White, and Blue Pinwheel Card

A pinwheel in red, white, and blue. ... Edited April 6, 2011: I'm linking my card to the April 5 Pinwheel II tutorial on Operation Write Home's Stars and Stamps blog. Two things I'd like to point out for visitors from the OWH post: I added a square red layer behind the pinwheel to set it off, and I used 3 circle punches to make my center element. Now back to my original post...

It's the same pinwheel design that I've posted previously, but it looks a bit different because I added a red layer behind the pinwheel. Click here for all my pinwheel cards, including a link (on the first card) to an easy-to-use tutorial on Sheryl's Crafting Corner blog.

I made my blue card stock from white Neenah, colored with B24 Copic marker. Technique: Coloring with Copics is very smooth, so it's a great way to make a small piece of card stock when I don't have the color I want. On the squares behind the pinwheel, I colored just the edges that are visible. Be sure to color first and let it dry, before attaching the layers!

The red card stock is Hero Arts punch, and the white card base is from Papertrey Ink - a very sturdy card base that I use on almost all of my cards. The sentiment "Celebrate!" is computer-printed in red and blue ink using Lucida Calligraphy font (bold). For the center of my pinwheel, I punched circles in 1/4", 1/2", and 3/4" sizes. I don't know the names of the patterned papers.

Two Pinwheel Flower Cards

Large, cheerful pinwheel flowers. Please believe me - in real life, the orange pattern and solid colors truly look nice together! ... Edited April 6, 2011: I'm linking my card to the April 5 Pinwheel II tutorial on Operation Write Home's Stars and Stamps blog. For visitors from the OWH post, I linked this to show how a corner rounder punch can give a different effect. You can round just 2 corners of each square, but until you get used to the assembly process, it's safer to round 3 corners (placing the unrounded corner in the pinwheel's center). As I learned the hard way. Returning to my original post...

The flower petals are 1-1/4" squares with rounded corners (using a corner rounder punch).

On the left side, my card stock is Hero Arts lilac (light purple) and iris (medium purple) with Hero Arts poppy (yellow), pine (dark green), and celadon (pale green). On the right side, I used an unknown patterned paper and Papertrey Ink melon berry (a lovely light orange that, unfortunately, my scanner sees as pink). My sentiment "Hello" is computer-printed with green ink in Lucida Calligraphy font.

Pinwheel Card - Aqua with Yellow

I had fun making this card, my first pinwheel, with the help of a very easy-to-follow pinwheel tutorial from Sheryl's Crafting Corner. Thank you, Sheryl!

The card stock is Paper Source peacock (dark turquoise) and Papertrey Ink lemon tart (yellow), Hawaiian shores (medium aqua), and aqua mist (light aqua base layer.) I drew the stripes on the yellow squares with Copic markers B01 and B05. The sentiment "Celebrate!" is computer-printed with dark turquoise ink in "Lucida Calligraphy" font.
