Tan and Blue Patterns

Monochromatic blues with a neutral tan, and a nice mix of patterns in the papers, baker's twine, and dotty sentiment stamp.

To get started on the design, I used this week's challenge layout and measurements (fall to layout #72) on the Clean & Simple Stamping blog.  Thanks again, Natasha, for your weekly inspiration!

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) fine linen (tan), enchanted evening (dark blue), and spring rain (light blue).
  • Patterned papers are the gingham, bitty dot, and stripe prints from PTI enchanted evening, blueberry sky (medium blue), and fine linen pattern packs (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
  • Twine is shore (light blue) stripe from The Twinery.
  • The sentiment "hello" is from PTI polka dot parade #2 (retired), stamped with PTI enchanted evening ink cube.

Balloon Trio with Bow

Our community's senior center asked me to make 30-plus blank "just because" cards.  Another volunteer will write cheerful notes inside, and they will go to clients of the adult day care center located in the same building.

I designed a balloon trio, tied with a bright bow.  All the cards are the same design, but with a variety of different prints and color combinations for the balloons and bow.

Note: the gray border is background, not part of the card.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Neenah solar white.
  • Patterned papers are bitty dot, polka dot, and leaf prints from Papertrey Ink (PTI) Hawaiian shores (turquoise), summer sunrise (yellow-orange), and berry sorbet (orangey pink) pattern packs (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
  • I pierced two holes in my card front to tie a bow with green embroidery floss, an old unidentified skein from my stash.  The bow knot is secured with a drop of Ranger multi medium matte.
  • Die is PTI birthday balloons.
  • The sentiment "just because!" and the balloon strings are computer printed in PowerPoint.  The sentiment font is Handwriting - Dakota, bold, with the two e's in a larger font size.
  • The lines across the balloon knots are drawn with Copic 0.5 black multiliner.

Burgundy Stripes with Kraft Panel - Before and After

(After)

My "before" card (at bottom of post) was one-of-a-kind, using a short scrap of hole-y paper from a friend's ribbon box.  When I tried to identify it, I learned it was the backing from a type of veneer tape.  Perfect for a thank-you note for this friend, whose cards make creative use of all kinds of "found" materials.

I liked the design well enough to make more, with card stock instead of veneer tape backing.  My hole-y die was narrower than the tape backing, with larger holes, and it looked better in a portrait orientation, with wider embossed stripes from a different embossing folder.  But the overall "after" effect (at top of post) is very close to the original.  Thank you, Judy, for sharing your stash and inspiring my cards!

Two Cards with Flower Wreaths

Two cards with flower wreaths.  I like each card's sentiment with mixed fonts that echo both the blocky square panel and the flowing curves of the wreath.

  • Patterned paper is the bitty dot print from PTI spring moss (light green) bitty big pattern pack (top card) and from PTI summer sunrise (yellow-orange) pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired - bottom card).
  • Die is from My Favorite Things vertical stitched strips.
  • The flowers are from PTI gathered garden, stamped with PTI berry sorbet and pale peony (medium pink - top card), or with PTI summer sunrise and harvest gold (yellow - bottom card), and the flower centers (both cards) stamped with PTI cocoa bean ink cube

Yellow and Turquoise Sun with Yellow Ribbon

I needed a sunshine card, and a friend gave me some yellow ribbon, making it easy to plan my design for this week's challenge (fall to layout #70) on the Clean & Simple Stamping blog.  The sketch measurements were easily adjusted for a bit more space for my die cut sun and a center gap to frame my ribbon.  The result is very bright and lively.  Thanks, Natasha, for your weekly inspiration!

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) bright buttercup (yellow), Hawaiian shores (medium turquoise), aqua mist, and tropical teal.
  • Patterned paper is the stripe print from PTI Hawaiian shores pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired) and the bitty dot print from PTI bright buttercup "+ white basics" patterned paper (retired).
  • Dies are PTI garden garland and what the doodle: sun.  After die cutting the plain sun, I embossed it with the fancy sun die.
  • Ribbon is 3/8" grosgrain.
  • The sentiment "sending sunshine" is from PTI keep it simple: encouragement, stamped with PTI tropical teal ink cube.

Plaid with Turquoise and Red

This was my first attempt to make a card with the new Papertrey Ink (PTI) perfect plaid stencils, and I enjoyed using them.  I love the colors and the contrast of the crisp narrow lines with the softer wide lines.  However, I think the angle of my plaid makes it look a bit slanted on the card base (and it's not!) so I'll try to avoid that next time.

Card details:
  • Card stock is PTI pure poppy (red), Hawaiian shores (turquoise), and stamper's select white.
  • Embossing folder is Stampin' Up square lattice (retired).
  • Stencils are from PTI perfect plaid, sponged or brushed with PTI Hawaiian shores, cocoa bean (brown), tropical teal, and enchanted evening (dark blue) ink cubes.  I used the round Ranger ink blending tool (for the triple lines) and the e.l.f total face brush (for the wide lines) to apply the ink.
  • Die is PTI wonderful words: thank you.
  • The dashed red lines are from PTI plaid builder, stamped with PTI pure poppy ink cubes.

Leafy Stems with Golden Brown Plaid

Leafy stems curved into a wreath.  The sentiment's narrow stripes echo the striped leaves on the top stem and the stripe-like fringed details on the lower stem.  In the same vein, I chose a finely striped plaid for the card base (above), but I also like the dotted green version (below).

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) stamper's select white.
  • Patterned paper (above) is the small plaid print from PTI honey nut (golden brown) bitty big pattern pack and (below) is the bitty dot print from PTI spring moss (light green) pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
  • The leafy stems are from PTI gathered garden, and the sentiment "thank you" is from PTI thank you kindly, stamped with PTI honey nut and simply chartreuse (medium green) ink cubes

Green Hello with Blue and White

A simple, bright "hello" medallion on a dark blue patterned background.  I like the stitched circle with the white pinked edge circle behind it.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) new leaf (green), spring rain (light blue), and stamper's select white.
  • Patterned paper is the damask print from PTI enchanted evening (dark blue) pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
  • Dies are Savvy Stamps hello, PTI stitched circles, and PTI limitless layers: 2-1/2" circles.  I shortened the beginning and ending tails of my "hello" to fit in the blue circle.
