Tree with Blue Bird, on Blue

A cheerful little scene with a blue bird.  I like the two colors of green for the leaves.  My tree trunk and leaves are inlaid into the light blue background.

Large Gray Polka Dots with Burgundy

Burgundy, gray, and white make a bold monochromatic color scheme.  The large gray polka dots work well with the smaller burgundy dots.  I like the wide burgundy border behind the white sentiment label shape.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) scarlet jewel (burgundy) and stamper's select white.
  • Patterned papers are from PTI scarlet jewel pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired) and stormy sea (gray) "+ white basics" patterned paper (retired).

Red, White, and Blue with Kraft Polka Dots

Some leftover pieces of white and dark blue just happened to layer together, and then, of course, I had to design a card to use them.  Very simple and bold.  The grid pattern makes a perfect background for the large scale sentiment, and the large polka dot print and the 3-strand twine wrap add some energy.

Green Vines on Blue

Calm and peaceful colors - three blues and a dull green.  I like the curving vines with the sentiment's mixed fonts.

Card details:
For Operation: Quiet Comfort, I made a similar design with a "just a note" sentiment, also from PTI botanical silhouettes.

Lavender Branch on Gray

Texture and pattern add interest to my softly monochromatic card, posted for this week's Papertrey Ink (PTI) Make It Monday challenge to "create along with us."

I was inspired by the colors and layout of this card by Dawn McVey.  Thank you, PTI and Dawn, for all the beautiful card samples and ideas you've shared!

Card details:
  • Card stock is PTI soft stone (light gray) and lilac grace.
  • Patterned paper is from PTI winter wisteria (muted lavender) pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
  • Embossing folder is The Paper Studio script (retired).
  • Dies are PTI branching out and noted: simply stitched vertical A2.
  • The sentiment "with sympathy" is from PTI communique sentiments (retiring), stamped with PTI soft stone and lilac grace ink cubes.  Layering the two inks makes a good match for my patterned paper color.

Green and Brown Stripes on Cream

The bold stripes made me think of a window valence, so I took that forward with a scalloped border and a strand of cream and gold twine.  The sentiment fonts echo the striped pattern with both curves and straight lines.

I first tried a dark brown border and a green sentiment, but it looked off-balance.  After switching the colors, this version works much better!

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) ripe avocado (green) and rustic cream.
  • Patterned paper is from PTI turning a new leaf 8 x 8" pad (retired).  I edged the top and sides with Copic marker YG95 for more definition against the cream background.
  • Twine is gold shimmer stripe from The Twinery.
  • Die is My Favorite Things scallop ribbon border (retired).
  • The sentiment "with gratitude" is from PTI spring woods, stamped with PTI cocoa bean ink cube.

Tropical Leaf Print on Dark Green

My typical design would reverse the dark and light green colors, but I tried it this way first,  and I really like the lighter green glowing against the dark green card base.  The tropical leaf print works nicely with the rough twine and sentiment font.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) green parakeet (lighter green) and an unknown leather-textured dark green - a few sheets given to me by a cardmaking friend.  Patterned paper is Craft Smith jungalow - a gift from another cardmaking friend.  (Thank you, Judy and Vicki!)
  • Twine is PTI rustic jute button twine.
  • Die is PTI noted (hello).

Green and Blue Stamped Pattern on Aqua

A simple pattern of "+" and "x" shapes, stamped in green and blue inks on aqua.

In real life, the solid aqua card stock's color looks more like the striped aqua.

  • Patterned paper is from PTI aqua mist pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
  • The large center dots are from PTI confetti toss, and the other images and the sentiment "thank you" are from PTI textile impressions (retiring), stamped with PTI new leaf (green) and enchanted evening ink cubes.

  • Patterned papers are a bitty dot print from PTI Hawaiian shores (tuquoise) pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired) and an orange floral print from Craft Smith flower market 12 x 12" collection.
