Turquoise and Teal Angles with Navy

Strong monochromatic colors and crisp angles make a bold effect.  Some teal pieces are inlaid into the navy frame, over a turquoise card base.  With my leftover teal frame and navy cutouts, I made a second card, which is also very handsome.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) dark indigo (navy), tropical teal, Hawaiian shores (turquoise), and stamper's select white.
  • Dies are PTI cover plate: angles and double-ended banners.
  • The sentiment "thank you" is from PTI keep it simple: thank you, stamped with PTI ocean tides (muted teal) ink cube.  Typically I'd use one of my card stock colors for the sentiment, but on my table was a banner already stamped with the muted teal, and it worked better than the other colors.  Love those happy accidents in card making!

Red, White, and Blue Pattern Strips on White

A few strips of patterned paper and a stamped sentiment.  Very simple but effective with the diagonal placement.  Note: the gray border is background, not part of the card.

On this Memorial Day, I'm thinking of the service men and women who gave their lives for us.  I'm very thankful for their sacrifice to protect our country and our freedoms.

Green Vines on Tan with Brown

A dotted kraft banner accents the simple tan panel, stamped with vines and a sentiment.  I like this variety of brown colors combined with the graceful green shapes.

Blue Sun Rays and Red Stripes with Yellow

Nothing subtle about this card.  Bright and bold patterns, shapes, and colors make a strong statement.

When I tried using solid red instead of red stripes, it didn't work as well.  Sometimes busier is better!

Green Floral on Cream with Teal

Graceful flowers, leaves, and sentiment stamped on cream and matted on teal, with a fringed diagonal knot of embroidery floss.  Lovely in real life, with a monochromatic look as the green and teal flow together.

Note: There's no greenish tint on the cream near the embroidery floss, but I couldn't avoid it on my picture.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) vintage cream and the bitty dot print from PTI tropical teal pattern pack (retired).
  • Embroidery floss is DMC 907.  I notched the cream card stock with a McGill 1/8" circle punch to keep the floss in place.
  • The images and sentiment "just a note" are from PTI botanical silhouettes, stamped with PTI green parakeet and tropical teal ink cubes.

Turquoise Flowers with Crimped Aqua

After I stamped my flower panel and matted it on green, I chose an aqua card front, then wondered what more to do with it.  A friend suggested crimping the middle section.  I love the effect!  As much as I use my embossing folders, I just don't think of the paper crimper.  This beautifully simple card might remind me to pull out my crimper more often.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) aqua mist, ripe avocado (green), and stamper's select white.
  • The card front is embossed across the middle with Fiskars paper crimper.
  • The flowers and leaves are from PTI floral fusion (no longer available), with the smallest flower's center from PTI communique sentiments (one of the dots), and the sentiment "sending smiles" is from Hero Arts many everyday messages, stamped with PTI Hawaiian shores (turquoise) and ripe avocado ink cubes.

Red, White, and Blue Stripes with Ovals and Stars

Today's simple card includes embossed stars, layered ovals, and printed stripes in red, white, and blue.  Several years ago, I created the striped paper using PowerPoint.  I like the bold red and white ovals, contrasting with the finer detail of the script sentiment, narrow stripe lines, and repeating stars.

Green and Brown Dots with Leaves

A few offset layers and accents in green, brown, and cream, with a touch of gold in the twine.  I love the soft collage effect of these patterns, shapes, and colors together.  The plain cream banner gives a focus for my "hello" sentiment.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) vintage cream, simply chartreuse (medium green), dark chocolate (brown), damask print from spring moss (light green) pattern pack (retired), script print from Dearest Jane (retired), and dotted print from "turning a new leaf" 8 x 8" pad (retired).
  • Twine is gold shimmer from The Twinery.
  • Dies are PTI garden garland (partial cut), PTI fabulous frames, and Elizabeth Craft hello (retired).

Bright Multi Stripes with Blue Label

Simple and bright!  Long ago, I created this multi-striped paper (using PowerPoint) for a summer-themed card.  Today's card started with a leftover piece.  I love the stripey colors against the bright green dotted background.

For my sentiment label, I showed a friend my ideas of color combinations, and she suggested this one instead.  I like it the best by far.  (Thanks, Sheryl!)

Diamonds - Rusty Red, Tan, and Navy

Although it's nearly monochromatic (counting the navy as a neutral), this card has a bold design and color scheme.  I like the repeating diamonds and diagonals of the harlequin die cut, the tan patterned paper, and the diagonal-striped twine.

Twist Pattern with Vine - Green and Cream

Two shades of green with cream.  Rich texture and crisp details.  I like the repeating twist pattern with the twisting lines of the sentiment and vine.  For an earlier version, with hearts and shades of pink, see this card.

Lacy Oval with Leaflets - Green, White, and Muted Teal

One of my favorite simple card layouts is something I call "medallion band."  Just a sentiment medallion in any shape, on a wide or narrow band of card stock, plain or patterned.  I've made many variations over the years.

Today it's a lacy oval on a wide piece of patterned paper.  I love the monochromatic look of the muted teal print with the light and dark greens.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Paper Source sage (light green), Papertrey Ink (PTI) pinefeather (dark green), stamper's select white, and the ocean tides (muted teal) print from PTI "in bloom" 8 x 8" patterned paper (retired).
  • Die is from PTI limitless layers: 2-1/4" ovals.
  • The sentiment "just a note" is from PTI winter woods, with leaflets from PTI tinsel & tags sprigs (retired), stamped with PTI pinefeather ink cube.
