Blue and Gold Stars with Kraft, White, and Brown

My card is based on this week's fall to layout #95 on the Palmtrees and Pogosticks blog.  I turned the sketch sideways to fit my large star better.  The mix of dark and light values follows the sketch, and I included a patterned star "ribbon" element, a large layered embellishment, and a scallop-y border piece.  It was good fun on a rainy day!  Thank you, Natasha, for sharing your weekly layouts to inspire me!

Red, White, and Blue Patches with Button

Layers of red, white, and blue with a knotted button.  I started with the light blue rectangle, left over from this card, then added some patterns and texture.  I like the patchwork effect!

Card details:
  • Card stock is My Favorite Things (MFT) red hot and Papertrey Ink (PTI) spring rain (light blue) and stamper's select white.
  • Patterned papers are from PTI enchanted evening (dark blue) and pure poppy (red) pattern packs (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
  • Twine is PTI enchanted evening baker's twine.
  • Dies are from PTI sketched shapes (long wide banner), MFT vertical stitched strips (to edge the light blue), and Impression Obsession buttons.  I layered two button die cuts together to add some weight.
  • The sentiment "thanks" is from PTI polka dot parade #6 (retired), stamped with PTI enchanted evening ink cube.

Aqua and Green Dots on Muted Teal with Leafy Branches

Two card designs with the same elements.  I like the bright leafy branches on the dotted background pattern.

On my first card, above, the branch placement hides the right end of the banner.

Navy "Grateful" with Multicolored Star Print

A strong and simple statement in dark navy on shimmery light gold.  A small panel of multicolored stars anchors the "grateful" word and adds some bright movement.

Gray Pattern Frame with Lime Green and Turquoise

Dark gray patterns with bright lime green and turquoise - almost a theater marquee effect.  I like it a lot!  I made this for last week's Papertrey Ink (PTI) "make it Monday" challenge to use patterned frames ... and then was too slow to enter it.  But I'm still thankful to PTI and Heather for inspiring me to try the idea!

    Card details:
    • Card stock is PTI Hawaiian shores (turquoise) and limeade ice.
    • Patterned papers are from PTI smokey shadow (dark gray) pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
    • Dies are PTI infinity frames and huge thanks.  I cut the frames from polka dots and stripes, then mixed up the pieces.
    • The sentiment "ever so much" is from PTI thank you kindly (retired), and the star border is from Paper Smooches seeing stars, stamped with PTI smokey shadow ink cube.

Butterfly - Yellow and Cream with Blue

Lots of energy in these layers of curves.  I like the cream and yellow contrast against the blues.

Note: in real life, the sentiment banner is the same cream color as the butterfly.

    Green Branches with Dark Blue

For this week's challenge (fall to layout #92) on the Palmtrees and Pogosticks blog, I didn't need a square card, so I adjusted the layout to work with A2 dimensions for my simple design.

I like the glowing green colors, anchored by the dark blue, as well as the mix of curves, dots, and straight lines.  And what I call "medallion band"  - a sentiment shape on a horizontal or vertical strip of ribbon or card stock - is one of my favorite classic layouts to use.  So, thank you to Natasha for inspiring my card!

Red, White, and Blue - Floral and Stripes

Quite a busy design with a two-color card base and diagonal sections of floral and stripes.  A simple white sentiment calms it down a bit.  The white star helps balance the weight of the sentiment, but it looked "too plain" until I stamped a smaller blue star on it.

Wreath on Plaid - Dark Green and White with Muted Teal

A simple two-layered wreath on plaid.  I like the monochromatic colors.  The sentiment and banner curves echo the wreath, for a nice contrast with the squares of the plaid.

    Card details:
    • Card stock is Neenah solar white and an unknown leather-textured dark green - a few sheets given to me by a cardmaking friend.
    • Patterned paper is from PTI ocean tides (muted teal) bitty big pattern pack.  To my eye, it's somewhat greener than the ocean tides card stock and perfect layered with a dark green.
    • Dies are PTI rustic wreath and bountiful banners.  To weave my white wreath in with the green, I snipped it at the lower right.
    • The sentiment "thinking of you" is from PTI keep it simple: thinking of you, slightly curved on the MISTI lid and stamped with PTI pinefeather (dark green) ink cube.

    Diamond Print with Stripes

An offbeat mix of colors and patterns - diamonds, bubbles, and stripes in lavender, pink, navy, and orange/orangey brown - makes a bold and graphic card for a family anniversary.

    Card details:
    • Card stock is Paper Source cobalt (navy - retired) and Papertrey Ink (PTI) canyon clay (orangey brown) and stamper's select white.
    • The striped paper is from PTI lavender moon pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired), and the papers with bubbles and diamonds are from Reverse Confetti paper bliss 6 x6" pad.
    • Dies are PTI direct messages banner and My Favorite Things harlequin (retired).
    • The sentiment "congratulations" is from PTI confetti toss, stamped with PTI canyon clay ink cube.

Cardinal on Green Scallops with Red and Yellow

My second card today also features a cardinal, for this week's challenge (fall to layout #91) on the Palm Trees & Pogosticks blog.  I flipped the sketch left-to-right so my bird could face toward the sentiment.  Thanks, Natasha!  I enjoyed using your inspiration, including the green and red colors with black accents.

    Cardinal Tag on Blue Stripes

A card with a tag, for this week's Papertrey Ink "make it Monday" challenge to incorporate packaging dies (including tags) into our cards.  I'm getting more comfortable designing with tags on my cards ... for some reason, it just doesn't come naturally to me, though it's really so simple.  The bird is bright and cheerful, with a bit of green grass for a setting, and some red and green elements above and below.  Thanks, Lizzie, for your challenge and inspiration!

    Card details:
    • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) pure poppy (red), ripe avocado (green), and stamper's select white.
    • Patterned paper is from PTI blueberry sky (blue) pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
    • Twine is by We R Memory Keepers.
    • Dies are PTI tag sale #6 (tag and reinforcement), PTI winter woods, and My Favorite Things fresh cut grass.
    • The sentiment "just a note" is from PTI splits: just a note, the double line is from PTI fill in the blank (retired), and the cardinal detail is from PTI winter woods, stamped with PTI ripe avocado, pure poppy, and true black ink cubes.

    Navy Star Print on Gray

A monochromatic feeling - navy and gray with small accents of red and yellow.  The bright sentiment in a whimsical font helps to lighten the somber tone.
