Green Branch on Dull Green Stripes

Dull green stripes with a leafy branch and sentiment in a brighter green.  The colors look beautiful together, and I like the mix of lines, curves, and angles.

This stripe print is double-sided, with narrow vertical stripes on one side and wide horizontal stripes on the other.  So I cut off 1-1/4" from my A2 and reversed it, inserting it 2-1/2" up into the remaining 4-1/4" square.  I like the paneled effect, with the wider stripes as a resting place for the eye.

Note: the light gray border is background, not part of the card.

Butterfly on Oval with Green, Turquoise, and Yellow

Pastels with a bright butterfly, for this week's challenge (fall to layout #67) on the Clean & Simple Stamping blog.  The dots on the sketch reminded me of my recently purchased polka dot paper, which then set my color scheme of green, turquoise, and yellow.

I wanted less of the medium green color to show, so I used an oval instead of a circle under my butterfly.  Also, I shifted the ribbon (yellow patterned paper) down, to keep a row of dots above it, and moved my oval and sentiment off-center.  And to make multiples of the card, I cut four 4" squares from the 8" square polka dot paper, giving me a green border around it.  But I can still clearly see the sketch design in my finished card.  Thank you, Natasha, for your inspiration!

Dark Blue Star with Teal Stripes

I enjoyed using the new PTI corner adorner stamps with an older star set.  The distressed-edge stars work nicely with the grunge style of the corner borders.  The rich background stripe and circle colors add depth to the stamped square.

To leave more space for the large "thank you" star, when I stamped the teal dots in the upper right corner, I inked just the outer part of the stamp.  I used two of the small stamps to fill in the upper left and lower right corners.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) enchanted evening (dark blue), tropical teal, and stamper's select white.
  • Patterned paper is from PTI tropical teal pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
  • Die is My Favorite Things double dot border (retired).
  • The dots and splotches are from PTI corner adorner: April, and the stars are from PTI military stars (retired), stamped with PTI enchanted evening and tropical teal ink cubes

Green Butterfly on Flowered Background

A bright and happy card for last Sunday's challenge (fall to layout #65) on the Clean & Simple Stamping blog.

The biggest challenge for me was stamping an overall background pattern!  I'm very tied to my MISTI for biggish stamps, like these flowers, but I found a way to make it work.  I placed the large flower stamp in the upper center area of my MISTI lid and moved my A2 around "randomly" (often partly outside the MISTI base) to stamp my yellow-orange flowers.  Then repeated with the smaller flower stamp in turquoise.  The green florets and teal "hello" were stamped without the MISTI.

I'm very happy with my finished background and my overall card.  Thanks, Natasha, for once again nudging me outside my comfort zone.

Note: the gray border is background, not part of the card.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) green parakeet, Hawaiian shores (turquoise), and stamper's select white.
  • Butterfly die is from PTI life is beautiful.
  • The sentiment "hello" is from PTI winter woods, stamped with PTI tropical teal ink cube
  • The flowers are from PTI floral fusion (no longer available), stamped with PTI summer sunrise (yellow-orange), Hawaiian shores, and green parakeet ink cubes.

Leaf Outlines on Aqua and Green Shapes

For this week's Make It Monday challenge (Using Outline Images) on the Papertrey Ink (PTI) blog, I started with my one and only outline stamp set, PTI in bloom.  None of my solid stamps seemed right for this, so I used the back side of two of the outline stamps to make the solid shapes.  Then I added my outline stamping, a sentiment with a scripty "you" word, and a knotted twine accent.

This was way outside my norm, especially the solid shapes not lining up with their outlines.  And I love the effect.  Thank you, Stephanie and PTI, for the challenge and the tutorial!

Card details:
  • Card stock is Neenah solar white and PTI pinefeather (dark green).
  • Twine is PTI new leaf (green) baker's twine.
  • The solid shapes are stamped with the backs of the large and small single leaves from PTI in bloom, using PTI vintage jadeite (green) and aqua mist ink cubes.
  • The leaf outlines are stamped with the leaf cluster and small single leaf from PTI in bloom, using PTI pinefeather ink cube
  • To connect the leaf stems, I drew some lines with Copic 0.5 olive (dark green) multiliner.
  • The sentiment "thinking of you" is from PTI botanical silhouettes, stamped with PTI pinefeather ink cube.

Tan and Teal Dots - Hello

Bold color contrast with criss-crossed rectangles and lots of dots.  I like the variety of pattern and texture on the very simple layout.  The teal "hello," extending over two layers and repeating the card base color, helps to connect everything.

  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) honey nut (golden brown) and tropical teal.
  • Patterned paper is the polka dot print from PTI fine linen (tan) pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
  • Embossing folders are Darice dot point and Cuttlebug Swiss dots.
  • Die is PTI wonderful words: hello.

Turquoise and Aqua with Gold and Orange Sun

My sunshine card is for this week's challenge (fall to layout #64) on the Clean & Simple Stamping blog.  I started with the sketch but omitted the mats and adjusted some dimensions.

It's been awhile since I used a two-toned card base, and I like it here with the patterned paper "ribbon."  Then I was definitely challenged to put my sentiment up in the sky this way, but I like it, too!  Thanks, Natasha, for inspiring and challenging my card design!

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) gold shimmer, Hawaiian shores (medium turquoise), aqua mist (light aqua), and orange zest.
  • Patterned paper is the leaf print from PTI tropical teal pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
  • Embossing folder is Lifestyle Crafts stripe.
  • Dies are PTI what the doodle: sun and 1-1/4" circle from hello sunshine
  • Center star is Fiskars 1/4" star punch.
  • The sentiment "sending you a little bit of sunshine" is from PTI hello sunshine, stamped with PTI tropical teal ink cube.

Yellow Diagonal Stripes on Gray, with Red, White, and Blue

When my latest Papertrey Ink order arrived, I cut a yellow sample of their new diagonal border frame (bold borders: diagonal) and left it on my studio table, just to see what might go with it, while working on other projects.  I was happy to notice the leftover white stitched rectangle - a perfect fit for the inner frame area - and the interesting pattern play with a dark gingham background.  Eventually I finished it with dark gray, red, white, and blue, but I'm glad I let it sit awhile first.
