Red Dotted Teapot on Lace Border

A red dotted teapot on a white lace border.  I like the kitchen decor suggested by the bright yellow stripes and textured turquoise green.  The teapot's shape is accented with red marker coloring on the spout, lid, and base.  I'll use this card to send "warmest wishes" to our church shut-ins.

Note: the gray border is background, not part of the card.

Card details:

  • Card stock is Neenah solar white and Paper Source jade (turquoise green).
  • Patterned paper is from PTI bright buttercup (yellow) and pure poppy (red) "+ white basics" patterned paper (retired).

Christmas Card 2020

This year's card is a Nativity scene with shepherds and an angel.  It's computer-printed on Neenah solar white card stock.

Since 2010, I've used one of my annual Nativity drawings for the card fronts, with a greeting inside "Wishing you all the joy of Christmas."  To see past years' Christmas cards that I've drawn, click here, then scroll down.

  • Patterned papers are a gingham from PTI Hawaiian shores pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired) and a mottled orange print from Craft Smith flower market 12 x 12" collection.

Stars with Purple, Orange, and Green

I've enjoyed using a Halloween color scheme for some non-Halloween cards.  On this one, I chose a few bright colors from the star pattern.  I like the curved script font with the straight lines of the stars, stripes, and orange border.  The white "thanks" stands out well in its green and purple setting.

Card details:

  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) orange zest, new leaf (green), and stamper's select white.
  • Patterned papers are a striped print from PTI plum pudding (purple) pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired) and a star print from Pink & Main not too spooky (retired) 6 x 6" paper pad.

Embossed Stars - Blue and Tan with Red

For the blue embossed stars, I tried a technique from Jennifer McGuire's blog, brayering a dark blue ink onto my embossing folder.  It worked fine, and I'm glad I tried it, but like most inky techniques for me, it was probably a one-time experiment.  Thank you, Jennifer, for all your information and inspiration!

I like the tan background with the same embossed stars, this time uninked.  A red border and crisp red sentiment add some energy.

Card details:

  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) blueberry sky (medium blue), pure poppy (red), and fine linen (tan).
  • Embossing folder is Darice stars asst (assorted).
  • I used PTI enchanted evening (dark blue) ink on the embossing folder.

Red Birds on Trees with Yellow

The stamped trees with die cut birds make a cheerful scene on light blue.  I don't often use a double mat, but here, the dark gray and red look good together.  I tried a red "thanks" instead of the dark gray, but it seemed to pull my eye away from the scene.

Card details:

  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) spring rain (light blue), pure poppy (red), smokey shadow (dark gray), and lemon tart (light yellow).
  • Patterned paper is from PTI blueberry sky (medium blue) pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired).

Flowering Stems

Two cards with flowering stems, both the same except for the flower shapes.  I didn't intend to have dots at the bottom of the panel, but then I noticed a few tiny green smudges.  Adding some dots provided camouflage and made a nice grounding for my stems - better than what I had planned!  Love when that happens.

Card details:

  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) ripe avocado (dark green), summer sunrise (yellow-orange), and stamper's select white.
  • The left side of the white panel is edged with Copic marker R08.
  • The flowering stems are from My Favorite Things dandelion greenery, the little dots are from PTI corner adorner: January, and the sentiment "thank you" is from Heffy Doodle down the line sentiments, stamped with PTI simply chartreuse (medium green), summer sunrise, and terra cotta tile (rusty red) inks.

Multicolored Dots on Tan with Dark Blue

My earlier cards with this dotted stamp were very bright, so it was fun to try a more muted look.  The dots look handsome on tan card stock with a dark blue border and sentiment.  I like the stitched sentiment banner, inspired by the set's first sample card on the Concord & 9th store site.  After trying a blue floss for my stitching (too bold) and a light tan (too pale), I settled on the golden brown color (just right!)

Card details:

  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) fine linen (tan), enchanted evening (dark blue), and rustic white.
  • Embroidery floss is DMC 436.
  • Dies are from PTI thank you kindly (banner), PTI stitching lines (banner holes), and Spellbinders card creator A-2 matting basics set B.

Red Circle on Yellow with Multi Dots

Multicolored dots on a white circle, with red circles inside and out.  At first I tried a yellow card base, but it seemed to dull the impact of the dotted pattern.  Instead, a yellow strip grounds my circles and adds a bright accent, while not distracting from the card's focus.

Note: the gray border is background, not part of the card.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) pure poppy (red), bright buttercup (yellow), and stamper's select white.
  • Dies are from PTI stitched circles (red circle - die #5 of 6) and Spellbinders standard circles small (white circle - die # 7 of 7).

Leaves on Trellis - Purple and Green

To make several of yesterday's card design, I needed a batch of green and purple curved shapes to inlay.  So I cut a section of the cover plate die in each color, leaving me with two leftover trellis shapes, and it felt like a good challenge for me to create something with them.  Today's cards are the result.  I used the same elements and card stock colors for both, but with different ink and thread colors.  Graceful and elegant.

Card details:

  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) lilac grace (light purple), amethyst allure (medium purple), mint julep (light green), and new leaf (medium green).
  • Embroidery floss is DMC 702 (green) and Anchor 872 (purple).

Diagonals - Dark Gray or Red

(A)

This design started with the diagonal stripe frame in dark gray on a dotted yellow background.  I used the same die to cut a piece of dotted red and inlaid a few strips, then added a layered circle for my sentiment.  With all of the dotted red strips, I was able to make two of card A (above) and one of card B (below).

Then I wanted to use my leftover diagonal stripe frame in the dotted red.  So I placed it on a dotted blue background for card C (below), inlaid a few white pieces, and added the same sentiment circle with different colors.  I like all three cards, but "A" (above) is my favorite.

Card details:

  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) smokey shadow (dark gray), pure poppy (red), enchanted evening (dark blue), and stamper's select white.
  • Patterned papers are from PTI harvest gold (yellow), pure poppy, and blueberry sky (medium blue) pattern packs (tone-on-tone prints - retired).

Green Leaves on Light Blue with Gray

Leafy stems stamped on light blue with a dark green border.  A greenish-gray card base with a green dotted panel.  A line of dots and a script sentiment.  I like how it all works together.

 Card details:

  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) spring rain (light blue), pinefeather (dark green), and stormy sea (greenish-gray).
  • Patterned paper from PTI new leaf (medium green) pattern pack (tone-on-tone prints - retired).
  • The sentiment "hello" is from PTI communique sentiments (retired), the line of dots is a partial stamp from PTI pencilgrams (alphabet - retiring), and the leafy stems are from PTI life (retired) and larger than life (retired), stamped with PTI pinefeather and new leaf inks.
  • I used a finger dauber on the largest stem to add some pinefeather ink details to my new leaf stamping.
