Mini Flat Sunshine Cards

I just completed a set of 120 mini (2-3/4 x 4-1/4") flat "sunshine" themed cards for our senior center. The cards are little thank-you notes to go into box lunches for the United Way Day of Caring volunteers who will be doing community service projects around town.

Three different designs, all very simple for me to make in quantity.  I like the bright and sunny colors and images, and I enjoyed creating something for this event.

Note: the sunflower and suns are orange, like the patterned paper strip - not red like my image!

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) harvest gold (medium yellow), bright buttercup (bright yellow), and the bitty dot print from PTI orange zest pattern pack (retired).
  • The upper left corner of the sunflower card is rounded with Crop-a-Dile 1/2" corner chomper.
  • The sentiments are computer printed in black and orange on white 1 x 2-5/8" mailing labels - "Thank you for bringing sunshine into the lives of others!"  The fonts are Lucida Handwriting (sunflower card), Tekton Pro (partial sun card), and Harrington (full sun card), all with expanded character spacing.
  • The sunflower is from PTI simple sunflower, and the sun is from PTI what the doodle: sun, both stamped with PTI orange zest ink cube, plus PTI olive twist (dull green) ink for the sunflower centers.
  • In the centers of the full suns, I added a 3/4" solid circle from PTI bits & buttons, using PTI bright buttercup ink on the harvest gold cards or PTI summer sunrise  (yellow-orange) ink on the bright buttercup cards.

Aqua with Teal and Navy Stenciling

An embossed pattern, stenciled in navy and teal, with the same deep colors as background layers.  I like how the dotted sentiment replays the navy and teal colors on bright white.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) dark indigo (navy), tropical teal, aqua mist, and stamper's select white.
  • The aqua card stock is embossed with a stencil from PTI modern background collection.  See this post for the technique and warnings.
  • After embossing, I stenciled the design with PTI tropical teal and dark indigo ink cubes using an e.l.f total face brush to apply the ink.
  • I edged the aqua card stock with Copic marker B39.
  • Die is from PTI keep it simple frames.
  • The sentiment "thanks" is from PTI polka dot parade #6, stamped with PTI tropical teal and dark indigo ink cubes.  I stamped first with tropical teal, then smudged the stamp with dark indigo and restamped, using the MISTI.

Silver Chevron Thanks with Green Dotted Banner

Shiny silver chevrons and "thanks" with bright greens and a strand of silver twine.  My photo captures some of the shine, though the green colors are nicer in real life.

Note: the gray border is background, not part of the card.

  • Embossing folder is the sun ray folder from Lifestyle Crafts/ WeRMemoryKeepers stripe set (may be retired.)

Repeating Squares with White

A colorful pattern of twelve die cut squares with crisp white.  I like the notched banner in the middle with the plain white borders above and below.  A deeper purple background and sentiment help to ground the bright squares.

My card is for yesterday's challenge on Nichole Heady's Capture the Moment blog, to "create a new project that incorporates multiples of a single shape, stamped or die-cut."  Thank you, Nichole, for inspiring my card!

Multi Stripes with Button

Rich autumn colors with rough stripes and textured twine for a handsome masculine card.  The striped paper was given to me, so I was glad to find some good colors in my card stock collection to use with it.

Sentiment Background - Red, White, and Blue

The idea for my "thank you" sentiment background came from Jennifer McGuire's post (thank you, Jennifer!) and although it took time to choose my stamps and arrange them, the stamping was easy to do, thanks to the MISTI.

I like the bright red and white sentiment "with gratitude" that reinforces the background theme while contrasting in style and color.  The white accent strip along the blue panel helps it stand out against the busy polka dots.

Sunshine Circle Scene with Dog

When I bought this dog die awhile ago, I had an idea for using it, which didn't look right when I tried it.  Then I thought of setting the dog in a circle with a grassy border and a sunshine sentiment.  I love how this little scene worked out!  The stitching holes give the circle some nice detail with my polka dot background.

Dark Brown Brocade with Green

Earlier today, I posted a pastel card with a shimmery taupe brocade patterned paper.  When I made it, I was wishing I had the brocade paper in different colors, so I tried sponging it with brown ink.

It was a lovely success!  The pearly shimmer pattern resisted the ink, and the taupe base paper took the ink very nicely.  Sometime I'll try the technique again with different colors.

In real life, my bright green word stands out beautifully against the dark brown brocade.

Pale Blue with Taupe Brocade

With lots of soft shimmer, this card has so much more eye appeal in real life!  My only matte element is the dark brown border.  The taupe paper is beautifully patterned with a shimmery, pearly white brocade, which unfortunately my picture doesn't capture well.

Card details:
  • Card stock is Papertrey Ink (PTI) dark chocolate (brown), blue shimmer (pale blue), sea shimmer (medium blue), white shimmer, and Paper Source "brocade taupe" pattern (retired).
  • Embossing folder is Lifestyle Crafts diamonds and dots.
  • Dies are Poppy Stamps meadow leaf (retired) and Impression Obsession butterfly set.
  • The sentiment "deepest sympathy" is from Stampabilities card phrases, stamped with PTI dark chocolate ink cube.
